These Cluckin’ “A” Critter Farm Fiber Combs are ergonomically made with a 35° angle for the comfort of the fiber artist. Keeping your wrists in a normal position as you draw the fiber from comb to comb helps ward off fatigue and soreness. There are two rows of tines measuring 4-1/4” long…made from .125 dia. stainless steel that doesn’t bend like other fiber combs under load.
These Cluckin’ “A” Critter Farm Fiber Combs are made perfectly straight to maintain the correct angle for drawing fiber while locked into the tabletop box, leaving the fiber artist to deal with one comb for comfort as you draw fiber from the table comb onto your hand held comb. Once the fiber is transferred to your hand comb, you simply remove the locking pin, remove the empty comb and insert your hand comb into the tabletop holder, replace the locking pin and repeat the process until your fiber is ready to pull into roving. There are two rows of tines measuring 4-1/4” long…made from .125 dia. stainless steel that doesn’t bend like other fiber combs under load. The wooden tabletop holder comes with a lip on each side to accept a “C” clamp to hold it to the table. (A clamp is included, but due to the many configurations of tables, you may need to pick a clamp that works with your table)

Skip makes each and every one of these fiber swifts from scratch using flat stock, dowels, and wood blocks. Each arm is fully adjustable with spring loaded tension pads to hold the legs in place when adjusted.
Wraps are adjustable from 50-1/2" to a full 72" for a standard skein wrapping.
The base is solid pine measuring 1-1/2" thick by 15" across. It stands 22-1/2" high when arms are fully extended and the overall width is 19". We use leather yoke bearings for easy removal and smooth easy winding. They will last for years without wearing out.
The entire swift comes apart for easy shipping and storage. It breaks down into four pieces. This swift is engineered to give you years of trouble free fiber processing.

Solid Wooden Drop Spindle
These solid wooden drop spindles are great for portable spinning of all fibers. Simply carry a ball of yard in one pocket and your drop spindle in the other. When you have time to kill in a waiting room or for a bus or anytime you have to kill some time, just pop out your spindle and go to work. Draft from the ball of fiber to spin yarn. As it gets longer, stop and wind the yard onto the dowel under the wooden disc. Loop the yarn back into the cup hook and go back to spinning.
I've seen both men and women spinning with drop spindles in many places. Very soothing and relaxing to those who use them.

In my opinion, this is one of the easiest ways to learn how to spin any fiber into yarn. Simply spin the propeller like arrow to apply spin to the fiber, Stop, place spinner between your knees and draft the fiber out, allowing the spin to work into the fiber, spin some more and then wrap the spun fiber onto the arrow. Repeat the process until you have enough yarn to remove and start again.
I believe if I were to teach a child to spin, this is where I would start. Once the spinning and drafting concept is mastered here, then you can move onto a spinning wheel with far less difficulty.

The Blending board is handcrafted from a ¾” thick, 12" x 15-1/2” solid wood panel. The handle is part of the main board, not a glued addition. The cloth is 72 TPI, designed by Howard brush for blending boards with a greater thickness and has a working area of 12" by 12". On the back of the board there are 3 threaded inserts for the keel to screw into with a threaded knob. The keel allows the board to sit at an angle in front of you or may be held between your legs, allowing you to change the angle and direction you ply fiber from. With very little practice, you will be able to blend your own gorgeous rolags.

I am now producing this accelerating head for all great wheels (walking wheels)
They are built one at a time in the tradition of old, with a lathe and hand tools. I use traditional corn husk bearings on the spindle and whorl assembly and a hemp string drive band. Can be stained to your desired finish or left natural.

This Watt Heritage™ jumbo flyer is very similar in design to the Ashford style Jumbo flyer. It is made of poplar and stained to blend with the wood of your spinning wheel. The flyer comes with a spool and maiden to fit the Ashford Traditional spinning wheel.
For a small fee, I can modify it to fit other spinning wheels as long as you can send me the orifice side maiden from your present wheel, which I will return along with your new flyer with its new maiden to accommodate the flyer orifice size you choose.
