Ducks and Chickens

Back in 2006, Vick decided to sell her house in Parlin, New Jersey and move to this property in upstate New York. After purchasing it, I was asked if I would come to help her make some changes before she moved in full-time. That's all really another story about how she and I got together.
The story here is, that in 2007 Vick decided she would like to have some chickens, so she would have fresh eggs. We purchased a small chicken Coop and ordered a dozen chicks and a dozen ducks. All was well for the first three weeks...until the chicks found that they could fly! We had a sheet of plywood dividing the barn into two separate sections, one for the ducks, one for the chicks, because medicated chick feed would kill ducks. We decided that the building was too small.
With that decision being made...we purchased the material to build another Coop right up against the first one, install a pitched roof, a new door and windows. One end of the building would be for the ducks and the other would be for the chickens.
That was the beginning of everything! At one time we had over 250 chickens, 65 ducks and 35 guinea fowl. We were harvesting anywhere from 50 to 100 eggs a day. Right now, we are lucky to get 10 eggs a day and our chicken Count is under 100. This spring we will actively begin rebuilding our flock using comets, which are great egg layers all through the year, even into the dead of winter.
I am sure that with the addition of the comets, we will be back to harvesting a decent number of eggs per day to satisfy our customers.
